Long gone are the days when you would have to dismantle a computer to have a look at its components, read the model number and then launch in an endless search on the internet for a series of drivers that are either obsolete, or come with inconsistencies and compatibility issues since some were designed for an entire range of components, while others come as particularities. I was talking to a friend of mine and remained astounded by the fact that he actually took a computer apart to see what’s inside in order to properly install the drivers. If you want to do it yourself, although I cannot possibly understand why, you have other programs that can easily help you with a complete diagnostics. For example Everest or Aida seems to work great, the only problem is that a scan seems to take quite a lot of time and it’s just not worth it. There are simpler ways to tackle the situation. For example the CPU-Z and GPU-Z are two simple programs that barely make 2 MB combined and will tell you everything you need to know about your motherboard and video board. That will be everything you need in order to properly install all the basic drivers: video, audio and LAN. So you will have videos, music, and internet. But is it enough?

That is the huge problem with drivers. Each new device that is inserted or connected with the computer in any way needs a series of driver to ensure the communication between the pieces of hardware equipment installed and the operating system. Since a driver can be comprised of a single file, or a compendium of hundreds of files, it can be really tricky for a user to be faced with the situation where he would have to install them manually.

Update? Why?

Naturally, most would ask this question. Since it works, why spoil it? And if you believe it or not, sometimes they actually have it right. Unfortunately, just like anything, these drivers are made by a series of manufacturers, which means people, therefore errors and mistakes can be made. I know what most of you would say “why aren’t these programs tested before they are released?”. And you’re half right actually, considering that half of the drivers that you’ve installed this month will be obsolete in the next two months, you may ask yourself, why bother? Well despite the “risk” of ending up with a bad driver, updating is highly important because driver updates are meant to fix errors and bugs not to create them.

As a matter of fact, I have the perfect example, try playing Blacksite Area 51 on a Leadtek Winfast 8600 GT TDH Extreme with drivers installed from the original DVD, and then let Driver Checker bring you up to date and try again. Other products may allow you to update drivers as well but they don’t have the incredibly huge database of the Driver Checker. Even as you read this, from the beginning of this article and till this point, Driver Checker has added a couple of more drivers. This can only be beneficial to you since there is no better way to make sure you’ve got the newest drivers around, then to simply let Driver Checker have a look inside your operating system and start updating everything.

We have reviewed several other driver products, but none of them were satisfactory enough to say that it can cover all the drivers needed.
