Computer Maintenance

I know that for most of us, computer maintenance seems something that should only be done by those who come and fix computers. Considering the amount of work we do every single day, keeping the computer clean, seems to be the last thing on our mind. Unfortunately that is not the best way to go, because if you would stop and think about it, how much time and money you lose by taking your computer to a specialist and paying him for the work, when you can simply make a little cleanup, whenever you have a few minutes to spare.

When people hear about things such as registry cleaning or Windows Registry they tend to think rocket science. Indeed, cleaning the registry manually can be really difficult, even for those that actually know what they are doing. The Windows Registry is one of the main components of the operating system and because of that; it should be handled with great care. The Windows Registry can be looked at as a database where the operating system stores all the information and configurations related to the programs installed. Because it is used every single time Windows needs to launch or modify a program, the Registry tens to get overpopulated with configuration files. These files eat RAM memory and storage space like crazy.

However, having a good prevention system, you can make sure that your system is running with a spotless registry which enables it to reach optimal performance. One of the easiest and the best ways to do that is by getting a registry cleaner such as ErrorFix. This was our cleaner of choice because of its excellent cleaning performance and efficient registry cleaning.

As we’ve said before, the Windows Registry has a great responsibility within the operating system. Every single time you launch a new program into execution, in order to open it correctly, Windows has to head on to the Registry and gather the information it needs in order to properly launch the said program. Imagine that each time Windows receives an update, or you install a new program, a new set of registry files (where program configurations are held) is created. After a while you uninstall the program but the files remain. These files can create a lot of trouble because some of them can become corrupted and sever the connection between the operating system and the program in hand, making it useless. That’s where ErrorFix comes in. The registry cleaner will come and delete all the files that have no longer any use within the system and attempt (and most of the time succeed) to repair the ones that have been corrupted. Even more, ErrorFix comes with a series of optimization tools as well. It targets more than registry files, it also helps users to deal with unwanted programs or programs that should be eliminated from the startup list in order to make booting speed increase.

Performance and Achivements

Several websites such as GearDownload.com and the vast Softpedia.com have deemed the ErrorFix as one of the best registry cleaners on the market. McAfee has scanned the program for any types of adware or malware hidden within but they could not detect any of the sort. That being said, let’s have a deeper look at the program shall we? In order to find out more about what we’re dealing with.

Compared to other software out there, ErrorFix is quite simple. Take heed that simple doesn’t necessarily mean bad. True it may not be Fix IT Utilities or the Advanced System Optimizer, but ErrorFix can certainly get the job done without any trouble. Developers tend to make this common mistake in getting thousands of feature embedded into one single program just to make it more complex. I for one am ok with the idea of having 10 programs doing 10 separate good things, instead of having a single program for all of them and none to be done right.

We’ve given an overall score of 7.5 out of 10 to ErrorFix because of their advanced registry scanner and cleaner.

ErrorFix comes as a standalone product that comes with many feats enabling it to deal with most errors found within the operating system. It has been granted compatibility with a wide range of Windows versions starting all the way back to Windows 98 (you don’t see many programs offering that) and ending with the Windows 7. It runs on both 32 and 64 bit platforms therefore you won’t have any trouble with it, unless you’re running on a 133 MHZ Windows 95 PC.

Features and Specifications

What we liked about ErrorFix , besides the fact that is has been created for the sole purpose of handling registry and system errors, it also comes with additional features which are RELEVANT to the registry cleaner. It has a registry organizer which can organize all the files neatly on the hard drive, so that when Windows requires something, it doesn’t have to go about like a crazy librarian looking for a book in the New York Library. The organizer basically acts similar to a disk defragmentation tool. It fills in the blank spots where registry files have been deleted (due to certain causes) arranging them neatly for Windows to read.

Another feature that every registry cleaner should have is the backup. This will enable ErrorFix to automatically backup the system before making any modification to the Windows Registry. This way you know that, in case something goes wrong during the cleaning process, you can simply restore your system to its original state.

The scanner is highly interactive offering a Custom Scan option. If you feel that you have some sensitive files within your system that can bear no modification, such as work related programs and others, you can force ErrorFix to bypass all the files related to that and ignore the registry keys related to them, no matter what ErrorFix might find.

We have downloaded ErrorFix, and the first annoyance we had with it (as usual), is that its trial version is no much of a trial. Indeed, it allows you to download the program, you can install it, you can scan, but when it comes to cleaning, you get the “Please Activate” notification and that’s all you get for the so called trial. Not much of a trial test is it? Still, to be fair, it also comes with a money back guarantee, so if you purchase the program and you’re not satisfied with it, you can easily get your money back. The good thing that once we’ve purchased the full version and inserted the key, everything worked like a charm. In a few minutes we were already scanning the software.

Another thing that caught our attention was the fact that the scanner really rose to the claims of the developers. In less than 2 minutes we had the whole registry scanned and cleaned of errors. We were more than satisfied with the speed. Actually, we were pretty worried that, if the scan ended up so quickly, than perhaps ErrorFix is not as thorough as it originally claimed, but the errors that have been detected were rather comprehensive and we cannot state that it didn’t do a good job, since the overall performance of the computer has increased considerably.

Interface and Utility

As for interface, ErrorFix comes with one that is really simple and really interactive. Since it doesn’t come filled with features of all natures and sorts, the interface is user friendly, the tools can easily be accessed and the scanning process is quite straightforward.

All in all we can state that the ErrorFix is definitely in the top 20 cleaners available on the market. The cleaning process is quite thorough, and when you think about it, that’s what you need most in a registry cleaner. True it may not have the database of the Advanced System Optimizer, which literally blows the competition away, but it’s enough to keep the computer of the average cleaner spotless.

Still, always keep in mind that the registry cleaner, does that alone: clean registry files or files with errors. These kinds of programs are not designed to deal with more dangerous threats such as virus infections, so never think that you’re getting a solid registry cleaner and solve all the problems at once. You should always have an active antivirus installed on the computer at all times in order to maximum protection, because the connection to the internet can be a great ally but also a great enemy, and it’s also one of the main reason the computer gets clogged besides registry errors. Cleaners are designed to deal with this kind of things on a daily basis: cleaning temporary files, emptying cache and so on but they are not perfect. Buy now!
